June 21st is a really early start for u-pick farms to be open to the public, and Val McMann of Sonshine Growers appreciates the awesome growing season that allowed this to happen.  She says their strawberries are in great shape and their first group of pickers came Wednesday morning.  As for the raspberries, she says a bunch of rabbits "enjoyed them" during the winter, which leaves them with only half their crop.  That will mean only pre-picked raspberries will be available this year.  Over at Huckleberry Acres, Randy Giesbrecht expects to be open closer to the end of June.  He says it's been great to have nice growing conditions this past spring, however, it's not enough for plants to bounce back after a few lousy springs.  That hasn't taken away any enthusiasm from Giesbrecht and his team.  They're working on providing a Saskatoon crop in a couple of years.
