Imperial Oil has asked the City of Steinbach to remove the community garage sale sign board from its property along Main Street at Kroeker Avenue. Russ Dyck, head of Parks and Recreation, says the city had previously received permission to use that location.

"The sign was located on private property and we've been notified by the owners now that they need access to the property to do some remedial work from the previous oil station that was located at that site. So we're unable to keep the sign there going forward and we're moving it just around the corner on Kroeker, just behind the fire hall. There's easy access there for people to post and view garage sale notices."

Dyck notes the garage sale sign was initially put up after the city banned garage sale signs from boulevards. He says it has worked well and reiterates that the rules have not changed.

"We don't allow them on boulevards other than if it's on your front yard, you can post it where the garage sale is located, but not anywhere else."

Meanwhile, Imperial Oil has so far not said what its plans are for that site along Main Street.
