With partly cloud skies and haze from forest fires the temperature in Steinbach reached a high of 29 on Friday and there was a UV index of 8 or very high.

Environment Canada released a special weather statement about high humidex values starting Friday and carrying throughout the weekend. With daytime temperatures to reach a high of 30 the humidex values will approach 40. They say the heat and humidity will not subside much at night and temperatures are only expected to drop into the high teens.

Saturday's forecast is calling for a 60% chance of rain in the afternoon with risk of a thunderstorm, high 30. Sunday's forecast shows a 40% chance of rain and a high of 31.

Environment Canada says, "While extreme heat can put everyone at risk from heat illnesses, health risks are greatest for older adults, infants and young children, homeless people, people with chronic illnesses such as breathing difficulties or heart conditions, and people who work outdoors. Drink plenty of liquids especially water before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration."
