Many people found themselves standing still for hours Tuesday on the Trans-Canada Highway just east of the Ontario border, and it's not expected to be much better today.

Jayden Gauthier says he was attempting to drive to his cabin when traffic suddenly stopped and stretched as far as he could see.

He and many others on social media say they barely moved in over an hour.

Many were worried there was another bad accident on the highway and were somewhat relieved to discover it was construction causing the delays. However, many complained there was no warning of the large delays whatsoever.

Ontario 511 says that crews are performing culvert maintenance on Highway 17 between Rush Bay Road and Red Pine Ridge Road, using alternating lanes. They will also be repairing the surface of the highway.

There is a pilot vehicle to lead traffic when it does move.

Construction is expected to continue on Wednesday and Thursday, between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. both days.

Gauthier wrote on social media that it took him nearly six hours to reach his cabin - a drive that normally takes an hour and 45 minutes.
