The winter wheat harvest is well underway in the southeast.  Manitoba Agriculture farm production advisor John McGregor says producers are about two thirds complete and are seeing yields in the 60 to more than 90 bushels per acre range.  But other cereal crops may not be in quite as good of a situation.  Barley and oats have really been hit hard by the hot dry weather and are starting to shut down.  Oats especially has filled the heads but the kernels aren't as plump as they could be which will reduce yields and bushel weight.  Corn, in similar fashion, may see some cobs that don't fill in.  The plants tassled OK, but due to some fields having a lack of moisture the silks were late in showing up.  McGregor expects an early harvest with spring wheat to start in about 2 weeks.
