RM of Hanover CAO Doug Cavers

The Rural Municipality of Hanover is losing its Chief Administrative Officer. After more than twelve years at the position, Doug Cavers will work his last day Friday before assuming a similar role with the Municipal District of Greenview in Northern Alberta.

"I was kind of stunned," admits Hanover Reeve Stan Toews when he first learned the news. Reeve Toews says Cavers has "been a great asset to our corporation. He keeps council well informed. He's good to work with and a very dedicated employee." Reeve Toews says "he leaves very big shoes to fill but we wish him well where he's going. I'm sure he'll do well there."

Reeve Toews says the hunt for his replacement has already started. "In the interim we have somebody in the office that can handle those (responsibilities) but not for a long time. So maybe just for the short term."

Cavers is leaving for a municipality thirty times the size of Hanover. It has an operating budget 4.5 times larger than Hanover's with double the employees. The Municipal District of Greenview is the third largest district in Alberta.

Cavers says a highlight of working in Hanover is certainly all the infrastructure development he has helped create in order to pave the way for future growth in the municipality. He says he accepted the position in Alberta for the opportunity it presents to his family. Cavers' first day on the job will be February 1st. He has worked as a CAO for 25 years of his life.
