More classrooms were added and additional teachers hired to compensate for the growth in the Hanover School Division.

Superintendent Randy Dueck says there have been three portable classrooms added at Niverville Collegiate Institute, the library is doubling as a classroom at Mitchell Elementary School, and a teacher was added at Stonybrook Middle School to respond to the growth seen within the school.

"The infrastructure, I think, is holding up very well, we're tremendously proud of the way that we look after our buildings here in Hanover School Division," he notes. "Having said that, some of our schools are very full. At Mitchell Elementary School, it's full to the brim, it's not optimum. We're getting another portable there in the next short little while, but we're continuing to press the Public Schools Finance Board for an addition at Mitchell Elementary School."

Dueck says the official division enrollment for this year is 8,076 students which is up about 90 students. He notes says while birth rates are indicating continued growth, it was a surprise to see a decrease in Kindergarten enrollment this year.

"We know there has been healthy birth rates in our communities and anticipated that our Kindergarten registration numbers would actually remain the same or maybe go up a little bit in the current year, but they're down by about 50. We've had, in the last number of years, Kindergarten enrollment numbers in the 600's and even touching 700. So, we're down at 612 and we're going to have to sort out what that means."
