A hog barn near Grunthal burnt to the ground early Friday evening.

At around 4:30 PM the Hanover Fire Department was dispatched to a working structure fire located roughly 2 miles from Grunthal along Provincial Road 205

When crews arrived at the scene, Fire Chief Paul Wiebe says they found an old hog barn fully engulfed in flame.

“The barn was empty of pigs,” specifies Wiebe, “but there were a couple of goats and rabbits inside that were able to escape.”

Wiebe says crews were able to get the blaze under control within roughly two hours. He expects it to slowly smolder for the next few days. The barn is a total loss.

The fire, Wiebe notes, is not suspicious in nature. However, he says the cause remains under investigation.
