Forwards Evan Groening of Niverville and Job Peters of Steinbach were chosen in the ninth round of the 2020 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

Groening was selected by the Brandon Wheat Kings while Peters went to the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Peters, who was auto-protected by the Steinbach Pistons prior to the 2020 Manitoba Junior Hockey League Draft on Sunday, recorded 23 goals and 33 assists in 36 games with the Eastman Bantam AAA Selects.

Groening had seven goals and 11 assists in 29 games with the RINK hockey academy this season.

The first Manitoban taken in the draft on Wednesday was forward Jayden Perron of Winnipeg who went in the second round 23rd overall to the Portland Winterhawks.

The Regina Pats took forward Connor Bedard of North Vancouver with the first overall pick. The Brandon Wheat Kings selected defenseman Quinn Mantei of Weyburn with the 13th pick and the Winnipeg Ice took forward Zach Benson of Chilliwack with the 14th pick in round one.
