A word of caution to anyone planning to do any burning these days. That comes from Grunthal Fire Chief Paul Wiebe who explains his crews were called to a grass fire Thursday afternoon just northeast of Sarto.

Wiebe guesses two to three acres of grass and bush burned but notes it could have been a lot worse. "If left unattended it would have slowly moved into some populated areas there so it was good that we got notified on this and we were able to take care of it before it moved any further," says Wiebe.

There is no word on what caused the blaze. "It was just called in by someone driving by who noticed fire in the bush," says Wiebe.

Crews were called out around 1:10pm. Wiebe says they were at the scene slightly longer than sixty minutes.

Wiebe says there was no major damage "although conditions are quite dry so if anybody is considering burning just use a lot of caution."
