There was a fatal motorcycle crash west of Giroux on Saturday.

According to Steinbach RCMP, at approximately one o'clock that afternoon, officers from their detachment responded to a report of a collision involving six motorcycles. The motorcycles were travelling west along Provincial Road 311, near Road 36E. That is about three miles west of Giroux.

Officers have determined that the six motorcycles were heading west along PR 311 when they drove into mud debris lying on the highway. The lead motorcycle lost control and the driver was thrown from his bike. The 45-year-old male from Winnipeg was then struck by an eastbound pickup truck. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Police say the other motorcycle drivers had also lost control in the mud, but were able to successfully put down their bikes. No other physical injuries were reported.

Steinbach RCMP, along with a forensic collision reconstructionist continue to investigate.
