The Hanover School Board of Trustees has elected Ron Falk as their chair for the coming school year.

Rick Peters will be the board's vice chair for the 2020-2021 school year.Falk, who has been a trustee for over two decades has served as chair and vice chair many times. He says he is always honored by the vote of confidence.

“It’s always nice to be the chair of the board and be able to provide leadership.”

Rick Peters, who chaired the board last year, has been re-elected as vice chair. Some combination of Falk and Peters have occupied the board’s chair and vice chair positions for several years now.

“We make a good team and enjoy working together,” says Falk of his associate.

Falk acknowledges that the 2020-2021 school year will be a turbulent time to be involved in academic politics and is glad to have Peters by his side. The ever-evolving COVID-19 pandemic will, of course, put the board under a lot of pressure when it comes to developing and adapting policies, but Falk says there are other factors that may also come into play within the next several months.

“Because of COVID-19 we have sort of forgotten about the education review," he notes. "Likely, it will show its head sometime this year and then we will have to deal with that as well.”

The provincial government initially planned on releasing the findings of their K-12 Education Review in March but delayed the unveiling due to the onset of the coronavirus.

“It certainly won’t be a boring year,” chuckles Falk.
