Wayne Ewasko is now the Interim Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba.

The PC Caucus has elected the Lac du Bonnet MLA to that position. The vote became necessary when Heather Stefanson stepped down from that position earlier this week. Because the Caucus was not immediately available to elect an Interim Leader, Steinbach MLA Kelvin Goertzen served as Opposition Leader as the result of his role as Deputy Leader of the PC Party.

Ewasko has been MLA for Lac du Bonnet since 2011. While the Conservatives were in power, Ewasko served as both Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Immigration as well as Minister of Education and Early Childhood Learning.

Prior to being elected to the Legislature, Ewasko worked for 17 years as a teacher and guidance counsellor in the Sunrise School Division.

Ewasko will now serve as Interim Leader until a Leader of the Official Opposition is elected. The expectation is that a leadership vote will happen later this year.
