Elmdale Street is looking rather torn apart these days between Barkman and Kroeker Avenues but the Head Engineer for Steinbach says the end is in sight for the reconstruction project.

According to Kyle Shymko, the underground work is roughly 95% finished, the road work should be completed by month-end and the final landscaping touch-ups will begin shortly.

While the project is nearing completion, the contractor has suffered one small setback.

“There have been some delays due to some of the weather in the past week or two,” admits Shymko, who says the rainstorms probably bumped back their end date by a week or two.

As the project wraps up, Shymko says the next big item on their list is adding stones around the drains to mirror those in front of the Theatre complex. He reminds residents that it is this unified look which prompted the city to redo the whole road in the first place.

“The goal of the project is to continue the same concept that was done in front of the curling club,” he offers.

All things considered, Shymko figures Elmdale Street will once again be vehicle-worthy by early to mid-August.

The road may be closed now, but Shymko says the project's completion is close at hand.
