The U18 Female Eastman Selects AAA are hosting a hockey game fundraiser for CancerCare Manitoba this weekend.

Organizer Lisa Irwin says everybody on the team has been affected by cancer in one way or another.

"It’s important for us to use our platform to help generate much-needed funding for CancerCare Manitoba.”

They have had this fundraiser in the past, but they usually only have a gate admission and 50/50 draw. This year they will also be having a bake sale and silent auction to raise even more money.

“This year we're trying to really ramp it up, get the community involved, and have a really wonderful day.”

Irwin says the team is excited to raise money and hopefully beat the PV Hawks.

"They're waiting to beat the Pembina Valley Hawks this time, and we've just been trying to get the word out, get as many people in the stands as we can, and just make this a great event.”

Devyn Brown who plays for the team is looking forward to the CancerCare game and is hoping a lot of people come out to support the fundraiser.

“It would be great if everyone could come out and support us, as well as the cancer funding and it would just mean so much to me and my team.”

She says they have had a fun season so far.

“You know we've had a few tough losses and a few great wins. We're definitely coming together and I just think that we're off to a great start.”

The game is on Saturday, November 5th, at the Niverville CRRC. It will start at 3:45, but the doors will be open an hour beforehand.

The gate costs will be $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for students, and any kids 12 and under will be free.
