Earls Meat Market has been around for 10 years this year, and to celebrate they held a barbecue on Thursday.

Earls Meat Market Owner Earl Funk says one of the main reasons he started the butcher shop was because of B.S.E.

"Many of the local farmers had nowhere to move their animals. They were dumping them, some of them were just getting shot. It was a horrible sight. That's where the dream came for Earls Meat Market. To have a meat grocery store that would buy local meat only, and only pour back into the community."

He says it took some time to build a business plan and find a suitable place for it, but they were able to get started in 2005.

Funk notes his biggest highlights have been grand opening, their five year anniversary, and the biggest of all, his son Evan coming on as a full time partner. He adds there are big plans for the future that will make new highlights.

Evan Funk says it has been great growing up with Earls Meat Market. He says people are finally starting to get to know his name instead of calling him Earls son. Evan says they love the support that Steinbach gives.

"One of our plans for the future is to still to be supporting the community. We both love Steinbach, we are both downtown guys, and we see our future still supporting and being part of the community."

Earl Funk says the barbecue turned out great with a line that went half way down the block.

"I just want to say thank you for everyone coming out. We just love the support. I want to thank my staff, I want to thank the people that have come out to help, friends and family. These things just don't happen by accident. It is hard work that gets this done."
