There was a drowning yesterday at Moose Lake, about 100 kilometres southeast of Steinbach.

RCMP report they were called to an unsupervised beach around 3 p-m. They learned a 22 year-old male had challenged another male to a race to some markers about 15 metres from shore. Police say when the man reached the markers he was exhausted and went under the water.

His body was located about 15 minutes later. Resuscitation efforts were not successful. The man's name has not yet been released. Police add alcohol was not a factor.
