The Splatters Golf Driving Range on Highway 311 is now open for the season proving once again that spring is here.

General Manager Evan Schroeder says the range wintered well and the grass has already started to grow. He notes the water has drained away and evaporated quite nicely over the past few weeks.

Schroeder says one of the reasons they are able to open so early in the season is because of a few tee boxes with artificial turf.

"We have artificial turf and that makes it different than most driving ranges because you can hit off the turf and try out all your new drivers without having to go on real grass. We have real grass as well, it is open and it is actually looking really good this year."

Brian Guenther is the Head Golf Pro at the Steinbach Fly-In Golf Club. He says most of the snow has melted on the course and they have begun preparation for the season. He notes the driving range should be open in the near future.

"We actually put the signs in this morning where we could. Still lots of frost in the ground, we will see by the end of the week what the weekend looks like as far as weather goes and just see how wet the range is, we have got to be able to get the golf balls off of there as well so we will see what we can do."

Guenther says the driving range could be open as soon as this weekend, but that would require ideal conditions.

Wilf Peters is the Superintendent at Quarry Oaks. He notes they have started to work on the course, but they are still dealing with quite a bit of water.

"The frost is coming out of the ground. It is wet and we have had some nice weather but we still need a little warmer stuff to get the frost moving out and right now if you were to walk around the fairways you are going to have wet feet and a little bit sloppy conditions."

La Verendrye General Manager Darren Dundas says the course is a little wet, but it is drying quickly and they hope to have it open by April 14th.
