Jo Unger

Dairy Queen in Steinbach is getting a new look.  Owner Jo Unger says they have started an expansion and a redesign.  "This has been worked on for about a year and eight months and now we are finally down to pulling it apart and making a dream come true.  We will be open during the course of construction and in December or January we will have to shut down when we pull the inside of the store out."

She says the store will look quite different when the work is done.  "We are taking the solarium off, we are building a solid structure on the front of the building, we're adding on to the south side and also to the east end of the building, putting in a nice patio as well."  Unger adds the drive thru will be expanded, as will freezer space, the cake decorating area and customer seating.

She says it makes sense to do this work now.  "This is our slow time of the year and we would like to have this ready for next spring when we can get rolling again.  I made changes in 2000, I redesigned the interior of the store and gave it a facelift on the outside."

Unger explains changes to the building are needed because it is changing into a DQ Grill & Chill. " We are also adding an Orange Julius to it.  Orange Julius has been owned by Dairy Queen since it has been in existence.  We are now expanding the Orange Julius stores to coincide with the DQ Grill & Chills."

Work is expected to be complete by the beginning of February.
