Alvin DerksenAfter serving on La Broquerie Council for four years, Alvin Derksen has announced he is running for re-election in Ward 1.

Derksen was elected to council in for his first term in 2014 and will be on the ballot once again October 24th. He notes it has been a steep learning curve.

"Going back five years, I didn’t have an interest in any sort of politics at all and it just came to me. I believe that I have a purpose here and the past four years, I have really grown to love and appreciate the community and the people that are in it. I have been in the R.M. of La Broquerie for 14 years now, my wife and I, and I think I can make the difference."

Derksen says La Broquerie’s major lagoon project was a big highlight from his first four years on council and moving forward drainage and roads are his top priorities. He adds he is an advocate for all residents and taxpayers in the R.M. of La Broquerie.

"I am not serving my own interests, I don’t have an agenda, I am not a developer, I don’t own thousands of acres that I would like to subdivide if my buddies will get the vote for me, I am there because I care and it is all about future planning, it is 20 years from now when maybe someone will look back and say wow that was smart, I am glad they planned it that way."

Derksen says with one full term under his belt, he has just got his feet wet and he is ready to build on that experience. He adds he believes he will be a valuable member of council moving forward.
