Loewen Boulevard Condominiums at 295 Loewen Boulevard in Steinbach were vacated Saturday night as a fire broke out in a third-floor suite.

Steinbach Fire Assistant Chief Russ Reimer says the 911 call came at 7:18 p.m. He notes when crews arrived they ensured all tenants were not in their homes and then set to attacking the fire which had started from a pot left unattended on the stove.

Reimer says, "crews did an awesome job of extinguishing the fire quickly and kept it from getting into the attic of the building."

He adds crews were on scene until about 9:30 battling the blaze.

Reimer adds the damage estimate is $100,000 and includes water damage to the suite below, water and smoke damage to the third-floor hallway and stairway. He says the suite where the fire originated from was not habitable afterward.
