Darryl Marsch Band performed at Concerts in the Park on Tuesday evening.

Band lead, Darryl Marsch, says the band comes back to perform year after year because they love performing here.

“I think first and foremost, it's the community. I spent a lot of time working in this community, and so I know a fair number of people. It's always nice to play in front of people that you've known through other parts of your life.”

He adds that the scenery is beautiful.

“The park is gorgeous, the gazebo is gorgeous, who wouldn't want to play in this park? The people at Steinbach Arts Council are so easy to work with, and so these things fall together very quickly and easily.”

Marsch says what they play depends on what they think the audience that day will enjoy.

“I want to make sure that we're playing the tunes that make sense and that people will respond to. And I've been doing it for enough years to sort of figure that out on the fly sometimes when you have to.”

He says they have a broad range of material, so they have the option of playing a large variety of songs if they think it's going to get a good audience response.

Marsch says his grandpa was his inspiration for becoming a musician.

“My immediate family was not musical, my mum and dad were not musical at all, but my mother's father, my grandpa, was a fiddle player and a piano player,” he says. “And so I remember very distinctly how I was probably four years old, and I would sit and watch him play. And I knew I wanted to play something one day I just didn't know what at that time.”
