Update: By 1pm on Friday, all 80 gift cards have been donated.

Steinbach Community Christmas is in urgent need of more gifts for teenagers.

“As of right now, we need about 80 teen gifts, so we’re looking for 80 gift cards,” reports Joanne Dyck, toy coordinator. “And we need those this weekend because our last delivery day is Monday.”

Over 2,000 toys were needed this year to fill the requests that came in for Christmas hampers in Steinbach and area.

A lot was donated during Toys Days at Canadian Tire, and there were collections held at various other locations in the community.

Dyck and her team of volunteers have been busy this month.

“We went through all those toys from the Toy Drive and also other donations that came in from other businesses and schools and individuals,” she says. “Every year, it’s just amazing how our community comes through, this year has been no different. We received all the toys that we needed for all of our age groups, except for the teens so far.”

With the last hampers going out on Monday, December 18th, gifts for teenagers will be needed this weekend.

Dyck says they accept any gifts for teens and are suggesting gift cards which allow the recipient to purchase something they want.

Gift cards should be valued between $20 and $25 for any local store or restaurant.

Dyck is confident the community will come through with this urgent request.

“Anytime we’ve had to put a call out for anything extra at the last minute, it always comes through. Our community is filled with generous, kind and loving people. And it’s wonderful to witness that every year.”

Bring your donations to Southeast Helping Hands at 525 Main Street in Steinbach.
