After wrapping up their first season, a new sport is available for people in the Southeast and it's speed skating.

Shannon Sawatzky is excited for the event coming up this weekend. "We're having come and try out speed skating, this Sunday afternoon from 2:30-4:30 at the TG Smith. We just want to showcase some of the things our skaters have done this year and give you a chance to try out those cool skates you see on the Olympics, the long blades and clappers, so you can come out and see what it's like to skate on those."

Two great coaches will be there to help make sure there's fun along with learning the proper way to speed skate. "They are really good at making it fun. They play games, like soccer with their speed skates on but they also work on the technical things, like the starts and tight turns. There are alot of people doing it recreationally but there are also people coming to the meets."

They cover all skill levls and will supply the skates you need to try it out. "We just need to know who's coming so we have the right size skates. Contact Eric 204-853-2096. We'll bring lots of skate though so in case you forget, we'll have you covered." You can also email eastmanspeedskating@gmail.com with your skate size.

It's a come and go event, so stop by and try out speed skating!
