A spokesperson for Clearview Co-op says fuel restrictions at their cardlocks are completely out of their control.

Since Wednesday morning, Co-op cardlock customers have noticed a daily card purchase restriction. Diesel purchases are limited to 300 litres per day and gasoline is 100 litres. The restrictions are in place until further notice.

Geoff Dilts is Operations Manager for Clearview Co-op. He explains the restrictions are a direct result of the labour disruption at the Co-op Refinery Complex (CRC). Unifor has escalated its actions and blocked access to and from the CRC, as well as the Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) Carseland Terminal and third-party fuel terminals near Winnipeg.

"Because of that, we are not getting fuel shipped to our bulk plant here in Steinbach or any of our locations," shares Dilts.

Clearview Co-op is working with FCL to replenish its supply and will have the impacted sites back online as quickly as possible.

"Unfortunately we have no control over this," explains Dilts. "Until these illegal blockades are removed, there is nothing that we can do about it and we apologize to all our customers, all our members."

Dilts says if there was some way to change this and get fuel delivered to their locations, they definitely would. Clearview Co-op has six cardlock locations, including Steinbach, Ste. Anne, Grunthal, Vita, Hadashville and South Junction.

In addition to that, Dilts says if no fuel comes in, Clearview Co-op may experience fuel outages at a number of its gas bar locations. Clearview Co-op says it will then prioritize fuel distribution to smaller communities where Co-op may be one of the only fuel sources available.

Clearview Co-op stresses there is plenty of fuel at the Regina refinery and these restrictions are not due to a shortage of fuel there.

"We just can't get it out because of the illegal blockades," says Dilts.

And, Calvin Dyck, Senior Finance Manager for Clearview Co-op says there is no timeline for when this might be resolved.

"Our anticipation and our hopes would certainly be that this is a short term problem and not something that goes on for the long term," says Dyck.
