Steinbach city council has heard complaints about the high mosquito numbers in our community and Mayor Chris Goertzen says this will be discussed at the next meeting.  He tells us some parts of Steinbach seem to have more mosquitoes than other areas.  "I live fairly close to downtown and so, as you move farther from the downtown area, I suspect that mosquitoes do get worse."

Although Mayor Goertzen feels he has had good luck in his backyard when it comes to mosquitoes, he has heard from others who live toward the outer edges of the city and they're having a tough time.

Typically, Steinbach doesn't fog for nuisance mosquitoes .  Any fogging that has happened in our city, has taken place after council received an order to fog from the province .  And that's only done when there's a risk of West Nile Virus .

"We've had a very good program in previous years.  We do larvaciding, making sure we prevent mosquitoes from ever hatching.  And this year, it's been so wet.  It's an exceptional year and so council will look at it as an exceptional year and make a decision accordingly on Tuesday," says the mayor.
