A Steinbach church has received approval from city council to build a place of worship in the Industrial Park along Acres Drive. Ekklesia Fellowship will be located at 88 Acres Drive, between the tennis centre and Kehfab. Church leader Arthur Adam told council they will not pose any problems for their neighbours there.

"We have church on Sunday and it would be on Sunday morning so it would not interfere with anybody's job."

Adam says the church was formed about 12 years ago and is now to the point of having its own building. He says they will construct a facility that can hold 80-100 people.

Deputy Mayor John Fehr moved approval of a Conditional Use permit to allow the church in the industrial park.

"There are several precedents already in the city. I think it's a fairly good fit for that area and there's a lot of room there."

Councillor Cari Penner seconded the motion, noting there have been no problems with other churches in industrial parks.

"This has seemed to work very well so far. We've heard no major complaints from people that are having their places of worship or from other people in the industrial areas so I think it's a good fit and the evidence proves that."

Council was unanimous in approving the permit. It then agreed to sell the land at 88 Acres Drive to the church for $78,000.
