Live nativity in December last year

Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach has tweaked its live nativity performances this year. Its annual Touch of Christmas will take place Friday and Saturday.

Spokesperson Anne Toews says the changes should make the performances better for kids. "What we've done, to coincide with the children's theme for the year, we have changed the story to a children's version. It's ordinary language that you and I speak so the kids will all be able to understand it."

Toews adds Touch of Christmas will also feature other children's entertainment and choirs singing Christmas carols. She explains, "Weather permitting, we're going to start sleigh rides at 5:00. To start out the evenings we're going to have Mr. Ken and Mr. Ben, they are going to come and do a Christmas show for the kids. From there, we're going to proceed outdoors to the stable for the live nativity." Toews says the outdoor performance lasts for about 20 minutes.

She adds the evenings wrap up with carol singing indoors. Toews says the Eastman Male Choir will lead the singing Friday and the Eastman Youth Choir & Friends on Saturday.
