Australian wheat production is expected to be very similar to last year's total.
Wes Petkau is a weather and crop surveillance analyst with the Canadian Wheat Board.  He notes the growing situation is currently a mixed bag with some regions of the country dealing with dry conditions and others near optimum moisture levels.  Meanwhile, challenges in the former Soviet Union will lead to a significant drop in wheat production.  That from Canadian Wheat Board weather and crop surveillance analyst Guy Ash.  He says extreme dryness and heat last fall in Russia and the Ukraine led to 3 million hectares of winter cereals being lost.  F.S.R's wheat crop is projected at 76.7 million tonnes, down 15 million from last year.
