"Together Towards Tomorrow"  is the theme for the Canadian Bison Association's 40th Annual Convention in Regina.

Executive Director Carl Flis says the bison industry is still relatively new and is about 1/10th the size of the cattle industry.

"The last census was estimated that 975,000 bison in Canada. So a good portion of that would be predominantly within the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan with roughly 150 to 200,000 head each."

When it comes to prices, he says, they've been relatively flat over the last year, whether it's breeding stock or slaughter animals, with some increases now being seen in the last quarter.

He notes the improvement is welcome given the challenges they've been facing with wildfires, widespread drought, a shortage of feed, and high feed costs.

The convention kicked off on Saturday night with a Pasture to Plate reception before getting down to business on Sunday with presentations focusing on marketing to production to bison health.

Everything wraps up Tuesday at Canadian Western Agribition with the Bison Sale November 21st at 5 p.m.
