Canadians across the country took time to recognize veterans, actively serving members and soldiers who are no longer with us Tuesday for Remembrance Day.

Steinbach was one of many communities in the southeast to hold a Remembrance Day service Tuesday morning.  Provencher Member of Parliament Ted Falk was one of the wreath layers at the ceremony, and he says it was important for the federal government to show their support for Canada's armed forces.

"It's very important for the Member of Parliament who represents the Government of Canada to be at these events and support our armed forces," he notes.  "But more importantly today is the day when we remember the people who made the ultimate sacrifice for us.  We say thank you for their service, thank you for their sacrifice and thank you for our freedom."

Falk was inside the Parliament Building on October 22nd when the tragic shooting of Corporal Nathan Cirillo occurred, and that event was on his mind during the ceremony.

"It made it a little bit more real," Falk explains.  "This is also a day when we do think of Corporal Nathan Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent and remember the sacrifice they made while serving their country in Canada."

Many dignitaries including Falk laid wreaths during the ceremony, and Falk describes what he was thinking about while laying his wreath.

"It made me think of my own son, and I'm sure there were a lot of parents here in the audience today that thought of their own children that are in the armed service," he says.  "Whose children willingly and happily serve our country to defend our freedom and defend our democracy.  Just remembering all the men and women who laid down their lives and willingly sacrificed their today for our tomorrow."
