The Chair for Mitchell's Local Urban District committee says residents should not notice much change on the LUD portion of their tax bill this year.

Brad Kehler says their operating budget this year will be $570,000. He notes that is down from 2020, when their budget was $634,000. However, Kehler explains that is because they completed the Walnut Avenue project, which was weather delayed from 2019.

According to Kehler, the mill rate for the LUD of Mitchell should remain unchanged in 2021 at 5.0 mills. That is down from 5.125 mills in 2019.

Kehler says they have a relatively busy year of construction planned. He notes they have the following projects scheduled for 2021:

  • completion of landscaping on last fall's sidewalk build on Ash Street
  • resurfacing completed on Oakview Avenue between Ash Street and Centre Street North
  • additional active living pathways built from Highway 52 through to the elementary school along Willow Street
  • extension of Willow Street between Oakview Avenue and Stanway Bay

"These two projects on Willow will be exciting for both students and residents as we continue to increase safe pathways in our community," notes Kehler.
