The Reeve of Hanover says infrastructure upgrades in Blumenort should cost less than projected.

The municipality will be putting in another lift station and force main in that community. Council was informed back in 2014 that Blumenort's sewer utility is nearing capacity at the Oakdale Drive

lift station. Engineers determined a gravity sewer line and lift station were required for future land development south of Provincial Road 311.

Then in July of 2015, the federal government announced it would pay one-third of the project's cost. At the time, engineers had estimated a price tag of about $1.5 million. The municipality also received a commitment from the province to cover one-third of the cost. Hanover would cover the remaining one-third through Blumenort's Utility Reserve as well as a local improvement debenture on the Blumenort Utility. Also, developers who will be connecting to this new force main will be contributing back to the utility's reserve as their contribution to this project.

A public hearing was held for the Local Improvement Plan in October and in December, the Municipal Board gave its stamp of approval. Following that, the project went to tender and Reeve Stan Toews says they received quite a few bids, ranging from approximately $928,000 to $1.8 million. Fanset Construction, a Winnipeg firm had the lowest bid and will be doing the work.

According to Toews, the project will happen during the 2016 construction season.

The new force main will go on the south end of Blumenort, heading north towards the lagoon.
