I'm coining the phrase "Be a Buying Batman".  There are three reasons...

1) I love Batman.  He is my favourite superhero.  Mostly because ANYONE can be Batman...the only prerequisite is that you need to fit into the suit.  No crazy super powers; just a willingness to do good.

2) When you buy local, you are somewhat of a superhero to that business.  You've taken your hard-earned money and put it straight back into the pockets of your community.  You've sustained another family.  You've saved another business, for yet another day.

3) I absolutely adore alliteration.

During this time when we are taking the initiative to protect the health of those around us and stay close to home, shoppping local becomes a quick and easy way to get the things you need.  Online shopping is an even better alternative, and the Steinbach Online Marketplace has made shopping locally, online, super simple...and super economical!  Many items you already purchase regularly Iike shoes, groceries, craft supplies and coffee, can be found at the Marketplace.  Gift cards to Sobeys, Pic and Pay Shoes, Negash Coffee, Giant Tiger, The Great Canadian Dollar Store, Pet Valu, Nature's Farm, and many more of your favourite locally owned and operated shops are all up for grabs at a fraction of the price.

You can also bid on classes and camps from the Steinbach Arts Council, horseback riding lessons, paintball parties, golfing, camping, hotels, and more!  Get-aways, birthday gifts, date nights, and even self-care items like salon visits, tanning minutes, and lash extentions can all be purched from the comfort of your couch.  There's no expiry date on an art class, a riding lesson, or a date night, and gives you something to look forward to doing, in anticipation of the snow FINALLY melting (I realize the calendar says spring, but I'm not buying it).

So while you wait for for warmer weather, use the super powers you have to support your local businesses.  Did I mention a Buying Batman is able to save the world from the comfort of his or her  couch?  That seems to be where I'm spending a bit more time lately, and you might be too (in my house, the bags of candy are a tell-tale sign...).  So why not support local businesses and get the items you need, all with one-fell-swoop of your figurative cape.

If only I had a Bat Signal...actually now that I think about it, it's better for all of you that I don't.  I'd be shining that thing all over the place every time I wanted chips or candy.  I could not be trusted with such a powerful weapon...

Shop from home, shop local, and shop quickly because the deals end March 24th!
