The Taste of Summer Charity BBQ on Wednesday raised $2,038.66 for Eastman Special Olympics.
Cathy Wiebe, Regional Registration Coordinator with Eastman Special Olympics, says this money will be used to help send athletes to Nationals in Calgary this winter.
“One of them has got their plane fare, their place to stay, all their stuff is paid for with that. I’m so excited.”
People lined up in the sunshine to get their BBQ lunch and give a donation. There were smiles all around as they visited while enjoying some smokies, chips and a drink. Some people picked up a few lunches to take back to their workplace as everyone found a way to participate.
For people who did not make it there in time to get lunch, they still left a donation to support our athletes.
Wiebe is impressed to see how the community comes together in support of Special Olympics and other charities.
“This is an amazing community,” she says. “I have to say they always come together when we need them. They always have, I believe they always will. And it makes me so proud to be part of this community. I come from a big city, when I moved out here, I learned a whole other side. I love it! These people are amazing.”
