A row of burning bales lit up the sky one mile east of Landmark on PR 210 Thursday night.  Tache Fire Chief Peter Skjaerlund says when his crew arrived the stack of alfalfa bales was fully involved.

"We managed to knock down the flames and protect the silage bales that were beside.  After that we contacted the owner of the bales and spread them out on the field because they were not salvageable.  He spread them on the field and broke them up so that they could burn and it was all cleaned up."

Skjaerlund adds about 70 round alfalfa bales from last year burned.  "Right now it's hard to tell but it's kind of looking like somebody probably set a match to it.  It's the kind of fire we typically watch out for and make sure we don't get anybody too close.  It was totally accessible and the field was dry."

Crews were able to drive the trucks right out onto the field to the blaze and put it out.
