When she’s not sewing for local hockey teams or quilting, Sherri Parent can often be found painting rocks.

She credits her mom for getting her hooked on this creative past-time.

“My mom was doing the Seven Dwarfs and she said, “well, should I do the Evil Queen?” And I said, “yeah, I think you should.” And I was like, you know what? It'd be cool to do Maleficent and it would be cool to do Hades and all these other ones. So, I just started doing them. My mom draws them and then I paint them.”

These rocks are often painted with various themes like Disney characters, Mario Brothers, gnomes and trolls, and some detailed paintings of Fairy doors.

Some of their painted rocks can be found in communities here in the Southeast.

“Some of them we hide, some of them we bring to Roseau River RV where my parents have their camper, and some of them I keep.”

Parent will often hide her rocks in parks, and says it feels good to know that her painted rocks might bring some joy to the finder.

“I think it's cool to be able to allow kids to find something really cute or inspirational,” she says. “You could do words; you can do fun things like Disney villains or things like that. And it just brightens somebody's day to get something like that or to find something like that randomly on the street.”

Parent has painted approximately 300 rocks, and she plans to keep painting.
