Sketch showing land where apartment block is being proposed

A developer in Steinbach would like to build an apartment block on Chrysler Gate, just east of the townhouses that line the north side of the street. The plan is for a three-storey building with 15 suites.

Deputy Mayor Jac Siemens moved first reading of a By-Law to rezone the land to accommodate the proposal. He says the concept fits in with the city's Official Community Plan. But he adds, "We need to hear what the public has to say. There are townhouses there currently, so there's multi-family dwellings in that area, so that fits. It is close to industrial, across the highway there's industrial, there's the 55-Plus close by and, of course, all the schools, so it does fit. But I would also like to hear what the public has to say in that regard, whether it fits in their opinion and what their view of their community is."

City council will now schedule a public hearing where it will hear from neighbours before giving consideration to final approval. That hearing is expected some time this fall.
