NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, kicks off on Tuesday at the Jake Epp Library.

Madison Redekopp is the Program Coordinator at the library. She says NaNoWriMo is a great program for anyone who has always wanted to write a book but has never gotten around to it. She notes the goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November which works out to 1,667 words per day. She says there are a few ways to go about it.

"A traditional WriMo, is somebody who writes one continuous story for the whole month long. We have another alternative though, we encourage people to do NaNoRebelling, that is when you write 1,667 words of something different every single day. Short stories or prose or poetry or whatever you want."

Redekopp says the library holds weekly events so that participants in NaNoWriMo can meet and push each other to meet their goals.

"We are going to meet and hangout and get together about once a week and just write together. The library has a space, you come right in and you write and we have snacks together and we do something called word wars which is where for the first 10 minutes, you write absolutely as fast as you can and whoever has the most has a prize at the end."

Redekopp says last year 30 people participated. She says there is no sign-up to the NaNoWriMo events and everyone is welcome adding the kick-off party is being held at the Jake Epp Library Tuesday evening at 7:00.
