90 cancer survivors are taking part in the Relay For Life walk next month, including 100-year-old Kai Winthers.

Winthers says he had skin cancer on his nose about ten years ago and over time they had to take more and more of his nose before replacing it.

"It took them a long time. They cut a piece off and then I'd come back then they'd say, 'no, I think we have to take a little more' and then they'd take a little more. It took about six months anyway before they finished cutting and finally found out they had got all the cancer. Then they replaced my nose."

He notes cancer has taken more than just his nose.

"My son, Brian, passed away when he was 48 and my wife had cancer, she had cancer in the early '60's. The first cancer, she had an operation, she had her breasts removed and lymph nodes. Then she took treatments and she was okay then after those treatments for quite a long time. I guess it would be in her late 80's and then it came back a bit. Then we took treatments again for a few years."

Winthers encourages people to have themselves checked as early as possible for cancer because it's not worth taking a chance.

Relay For Life takes place May 26.
