Grade 10 student Jasmine Peloquin from St. Pierre was recently awarded the John Currie Bursary Award.
Peloquin recently moved from Manitoba to Calgary to join the Calgary Aquabelles, which is a synchronized swimming club.
She says being a part of the Calgary Aquabelles has been an amazing experience.
“It's filled with great athletes and coaches who have helped me with my journey.”
The John Currie Bursary Award is a $1,000 bursary to help with travel and training expenses in sports.
Applicants write about their experience as an athlete and what they need the bursary for.
Peloquin wrote about how she moved from Manitoba to Calgary.
“I started out in Manitoba and was happy with where I was at, but I felt like I needed more. And then I came to MNP Sport Centre and all the staff and coaches and athletes there were really, really great and accepting.”
Peloquin loves synchronized swimming because of the team aspect.
“Everyone supports each other and is always there for each other and because of the amount of hours we put into it, we have gotten to know each other really well.”
