Police say a man from New Bothwell is in stable condition following a two-vehicle crash Monday evening.

The collision happened along Highway 52 near Road 23E in the Rural Municipality of Hanover. That intersection is near the turnoff to the HyLife feedmill.

According to RCMP, an SUV was travelling west on Highway 52 when it entered the eastbound lane and collided nearly head-on with an eastbound semi-trailer. Police say the driver's side corner of the SUV struck the driver's side corner of the semi.

The SUV was being driven by a 59-year-old male from New Bothwell. He was transported to hospital by STARS air ambulance. The man had life-threatening injuries but was later upgraded to serious but stable condition. 

Police say the 45-year-old male driver of the semi, from Steinbach, was not injured.

Highway 52 was closed to traffic for investigators and also for crews to clear the scene. Police say the highway was reopened by 3 am.
