Residents of Steinbach may have been seeing a lot of bare grass over the last few weeks, but many communities in the Rural Municipality of Piney are dealing with fresh snow.

Over the weekend much of the southeast was under a blowing snow advisory and while it did not materialize in Steinbach, it was a different story in the southeastern corner of the province.

Wayne Anderson is the Reeve of the R.M. of Piney. He notes they got anywhere from 3 to 10 inches of heavy wet snow.

"It started on Sunday at about 11:30 and it finished at about 4:30 and most of it was in the middle of the area like Middlebro, Sprague, South Junction, Piney and out toward Moose Lake, Moose Lake had 10 inches as well."

Anderson says municipal crews were able to get most of the snow cleanup done by Tuesday. He adds despite the fresh snow, the flood forecast remains positive.

"It is melting but it has been a fairly slow melt. Most of the snow is gone and then we get more and then it goes again and we are not too bad for flood situation. Everything is really soggy. We can’t stand a whole bunch of rain. If we get six inches of rain we are in trouble. For now, everything is soggy but it is good."
