The Steinbach Fire Department was called to the Deerfield area in the city's east end Tuesday night. Assistant Deputy Chief Mike Penner says they got the call at 9:16 p.m.

"We got called to Marshall Place. There was a fire on top of a hydro pole. The pole was on fire a couple of feet from the tip. We secured the area and waited for Hydro to disconnect or turn off that line and then we put the pole out for them. We went on our way and their crews figured that within approximately a four-hour time frame they were going to have it up and going again."

Manitoba Hydro says the cause of the fire is believed to be moisture that seeped into a cracked insulator which then caused electricity to arc to the pole in search of a ground.
