The Town of Niverville will be getting a natural face-lift this spring.

A grant of 40 trees is being offered by the infrastructure and natural gas corporation, TC Energy.

“We’re hoping to join partnerships with property owners to begin a conscious effort to increase the number of trees in Niverville,” says Councillor Nathan Dueck.

According to Dueck, members of the community, with guidance from volunteer group Communities in Bloom, will be relied on to plant and care for the donated trees.

“Trees will be planted on front yards in pre-approved areas and be subject to soil sampling and locates results,” explains the Councillor. This year’s chosen streets will be Carnoustie and Troon Cove, located on the west side of town, near the golf course.

“The most exciting thing is just seeing a huge diversity of trees being planted in our community,” says Dueck before explaining some of the benefits. “Things like property values and economic vitality, and adding a diverse, robust investment into trees are going to be very beneficial to our community.”

Dueck’s hope is to have the initiative up and running starting Saturday, May 23rd.

“The best time to plant a tree is ten years ago,” says Councillor Nathan Dueck, “the second-best is right now.”
