Niverville Town Council has approved a new subdivision and the roads necessary for new development next to Old Drovers Run Golf Course.

Mayor Myron Dyck says a public hearing was held to give nearby residents an opportunity to see the plans for the newest phase of the Highlands Development and give feedback.

"Highlands, which is the golf course development, is just going into its next phase of development and what they were showing was there is another road that is coming on and then they have also laid out the general oversight for the remaining 78 acres of the project."

The initial plans for the Highlands included an 18-hole golf course but that was officially scaled back to 9 holes in 2016. Sunset Estates Ltd. is now moving forward with their plans to develop the land that had been set aside for the back 9 holes of the course. They presented plans for 28 new single-family residential lots and have also set aside three blocks of land for future subdivisions.

Dyck says not many people came to the public hearing for the subdivision but they did get one letter of opposition from a resident on St. Andrews Way.

"Essentially it was increased traffic to the development, they thought that with the increased development that Niverville was losing its young family friendliness. They just moved here in November, just concerned that they are seeing sales of houses on their street already from people that have bought and are already selling so there was one letter of opposition read into the record."

Dyck says council approved the roads and subdivision subject to a development agreement with the Town of Niverville.
