The Local Urban District committee of Blumenort is trying to keep taxes unchanged from last year for residents.

Roger Harder is Chair of the committee. He says the Blumenort LUD last year had a mil rate of 4.255. The committee has proposed a budget that will see no change to the mil rate for 2019.

"We worked hard to try to keep the mil rate low for the residents of Blumenort," says Harder. "We're trying to balance out getting great service for capital projects, so that residents are happy to live in Blumenort."

But, this is only a proposed plan. It must first be approved by Hanover council, something that will be included in Hanover's budget, to be approved in spring. And, this is only for the LUD portion of the tax bill.

According to Harder, the LUD committee of Blumenort is planning for three capital projects in 2019. Harder says the biggest project would see School Boulevard repaved from Provincial Road 311 to the school. He anticipates they will remove the top layer of that road and reapply asphalt. The work will also include repairs to culverts that are lifting.

"Especially since it's a transport road for our school children we want that to be a safe road all around," he says.

Harder says the cost of this project will be covered entirely by the LUD.

A second project would see concrete bottoms installed in waterways along Rockridge Drive.

"The concrete bottoms allows us to clean out the ditches easier and also avoids growth of the grasses or cattails coming in," he says. "It's a long term fix for the challenges that we want to avoid in the future."

The third project would see sidewalks built on the north side of Rockridge Drive.
