Darby Gula had two points on the night, including the game-winning overtime goal as the Steinbach Pistons edged the Swan Valley Stampeders 5-4 on Friday night.

The Pistons and the Stamps traded chances in the first half of the opening period as both goalies, Matt Radomsky for Steinbach and Brett Evans for Swan Valley, went save for save.

Danny Pion scored first for Steinbach, his first of the year to make it 1-0. Declan Graham and Tyson McConnell picked up the assists.

Swans Trevor Mann tied the game late in the period as the two teams headed into the first break deadlocked at 1.

In the second, Braden Purtill tipped home a Gula point shot (it was more of a perfectly placed slap-pass) for his team-leading 11th goal of the year, making it 2-1 Steinbach. Bradley Schoonbaert also got an assist on Purtill's power-play goal.

Easton Bennett made it 3-1 less than two minutes later after some hard work in the corner from Brady Tatro freed up the puck and he found Bennett all alone in front and he netted his fourth goal of the season. Linemate Tanner Mole had the second assist.

Swan battled back to cut the lead on their own power play as Mann collected his second of the night to make it 3-2 heading into the third.

Less than 90 seconds into the final frame, Matthew Osadick of the Stamps went in all alone on Radomsky and made no mistake as the game was tied again 3-3.

Drew Worrad, back for his first game after coming off an injury, picked up right where he left off before he got hurt, scoring his third goal in his third game played. Will Koop and Schoonbaert had the helpers on the go-ahead goal for the Pistons.

The lead didn't last, just 35 seconds later, Stephon Perreault scored on a two on one to tie the game yet again.

The horn sounded and for the first time this year, the Pistons needed extra time to decide the outcome.

After the Stamps took a penalty, the Pistons closed in with the man advantage. Worrad corralled the puck in the corner, kept his head up and fed Purtill at the point who slid it over to Gula who found a lane and ripped a wrister home for his second point of the night and third goal of the year.

Radomsky made 35 saves on the night and lost in the stats was just how good Radomsky was according to assistant coach Joey Moggach. "He really kept us in." Moggach said after the game, "we kinda hung him out to dry at times. We probably don't win the game if he doesn't come up with the big saves. It's a boost for our bench to see him play well. It was huge for him and without him, we maybe don't get the two points."

Moggach also talked about what the team needs to do moving forward. "It's something we've addressed, helping out (the goalies) more. Making sure loose pucks aren't getting the second and third chances. We need to clean up the play in our own zone."

Steinbach will continue their home stand as they welcome in the OCN Blizzard on Sunday night. It will be Pink in the Rink as the Pistons will wear special jersey's that will be auctioned off after the game with proceeds going to charity.
