Update: Highway 311 reopens northeast of Steinbach after collision
Updated information at 10:40am, Saturday: Highway 311, northeast of Steinbach, has reopened following a serious vehicle-pedestrian collision near Giroux. Deputy Fire Chief Miguel Dubé of the La Broquerie Fire Department says crews, along with EMS and RCMP, responded to the incident at 6:18 a.m. Saturday between municipal roads 37E and 38E. The highway was closed in both directions to allow emergency teams to work safely. RCMP are investigating the cause of the collision. The highway was reopened at 9:48 a.m. Original story at 7:31am, Saturday: Highway 311 is closed in both directions between Road 37E and Road 38E, northeast of Steinbach, following a motor vehicle collision. The closure east of Giroux was first reported by the La Broquerie Fire Department on social media at 6:52 a.m. Saturday. Manitoba Highways confirmed the closure on its website at 7:04 a.m., with all lanes currently blocked. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until the roadway reopens.
