Winter registration deadline nearing for Prairie Basketball League
Registration for the upcoming winter season with Prairie Basketball League (PBL) is ending soon, with the deadline on July 31. PBL Commissioner Abram Razon says registration is ending soon as the league has gotten quite large, and they need to allow a lot of time in between the deadline and the draft day, which is on September 7. He explains what PBL draft day is. “For the majority of our divisions, all the players sign up individually, and at the start of each league, we hold the draft day a month prior to the opening day to assess everybody's skill level.” On the youth side, the coaches are in charge of drafting the players to make every team as even as possible. Then for the adult divisions, as they don’t have coaches, the board members come in and do the same thing. Razon says making the teams themselves helps build community. “Because now you're not just signing up with your friends and putting together a team. Now you're getting to meet everybody in our area, and get to take turns playing with one another twice in a year.” He says if you are unsure about signing up, come check it out. “We have our programs for winter and spring, so there's no real rush to signing up, although we do fill up our spots very quickly. What I would suggest doing, come check out one of the games, one of the practices, and see what it's like to be part of it.” The winter season runs from September 28 to December 20.
